Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz was born in Winona Minnesota. Parents named her Winona after her home town. Michel Horowitz is her father as well as Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father was from a Jewish origin. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family moved from Mendocino County to California at the age of seven. In those days, there were no electric lights. Ryder became an avid book reader because there was television. Ryder began taking acting lessons in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of 12. Lucas was let go in 1986. Ryder, who was only 15, landed the role of a leading actress. Ryder was bullied throughout high school. Ryder believed that if she became an actor, her bullying would be changed. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. However, it didn't stop her from making plans for her future. In 1988, it was when Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that she got her big break. Ryder continued to play successful roles in many movies. In 1993, Ryder was nominated two times for the Academy Awards.
